Gender Ideology in Law: Implications for Gendered Legal Disparities by Dr. Andrea Miller

 In an effort to understand gendered disparities in legal outcomes, social psychology research has begun to examine the effects of gender ideology and beliefs about traditional gender roles. Andrea Miller, a professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will discuss: 1) the role of gender stereotypes and gender roles in how attorneys identify potential employment discrimination cases and frame their pleadings, 2) the role of judges’ gender ideology in family law and employment discrimination case outcomes, and 3) what attorneys can do to prevent or mitigate the effects of these gender biases in their clients’ case outcomes.
